Upcoming esports events 2026 and 2027 - Calendar and teams

Upcoming esports events 2026 and 2027 - Calendar and teams

The end of the year in esports rarely means a calm conclusion to the season. Quite the opposite. Autumn is usually when the biggest stories built over the previous months finally reach their conclusion.

A team that looked average in spring suddenly finds its best form at the most important tournament of the year. A favourite is eliminated after one poor series. A young player known mainly by the most dedicated fans becomes one of the most talked-about names in the scene within a few days.

There may be an exceptional number of stories like these in the second half of 2026. The calendar includes the League of Legends World Championship, the conclusion of the VALORANT season, The International, two major multi-game events and an unusually intense series of Counter-Strike 2 tournaments.

The most important upcoming esports events at the end of 2026 include The International, VALORANT Champions Shanghai, Worlds 2026, the Esports Nations Cup and the CS2 Major in Singapore.

At the same time, the 2027 calendar is beginning to take shape. We do not yet know all the dates, cities and participating teams, but one of the most widely discussed events of the season is expected to be the first Olympic Esports Games.

It is worth remaining cautious. The further away an event is, the greater the risk that its date, location or format will change. The following overview is based on information available on 6 August 2026.

The most important events at the end of 2026

If you follow only one game, the calendar may seem relatively straightforward. The problem begins when you are interested in CS2, League of Legends, VALORANT and Dota 2 at the same time.

The biggest competitions will partially overlap in October and November. This means simultaneous broadcasts, matches played in different time zones and finals sometimes held only a few days apart.

The most important confirmed events are:

Date Event Game or format Location
until 23 August 2026 Esports World Cup 2026 24 games and 25 tournaments Paris
20-23 August 2026 The International 2026 Dota 2 Shanghai
26 August-6 September 2026 BLAST Premier Open Porto Counter-Strike 2 Porto
24 September-18 October 2026 VALORANT Champions VALORANT Shanghai
3-11 October 2026 ESL Pro League Season 24 Counter-Strike 2 Katowice
15 October-14 November 2026 Worlds 2026 League of Legends United States
22 October-1 November 2026 Game Changers Championship VALORANT São Paulo
22 October-2 November 2026 PGL Belgrade Counter-Strike 2 Belgrade
2-29 November 2026 Esports Nations Cup 16 games Riyadh
2-8 November 2026 IEM Beijing Counter-Strike 2 China
11-15 November 2026 BLAST Premier Rivals Counter-Strike 2 Hong Kong
25 November-13 December 2026 PGL Singapore Major Counter-Strike 2 Singapore

The table alone makes it clear that autumn will require good organisation from esports fans. The period between late October and early November will be particularly intense, with the most important stages of several popular games taking place at the same time.

Esports World Cup 2026 in Paris

A multi-game festival will close the summer part of the season

The Esports World Cup 2026 began on 6 July and will continue until 23 August. The event was moved to Paris Expo Porte de Versailles and includes as many as 24 games and 25 separate tournaments.

More than 2,000 players representing over 200 organisations are taking part. The programme includes Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends, VALORANT, Dota 2, Rocket League, Apex Legends, PUBG, mobile titles, fighting games and chess.

Its scale is what most clearly distinguishes the Esports World Cup from traditional world championships built around a single game.

On the same day, you can watch tactical rounds in CS2, switch to a fast Rocket League match and finish the evening with a long best-of series in a MOBA. For viewers, this means an enormous amount of choice. For clubs, it is a test of the entire organisation rather than one specific roster.

The format also shows how current esports games are changing. The biggest events no longer have to focus on a single title. They are increasingly becoming multi-week festivals that bring completely different communities together.

The International 2026 in Shanghai

The biggest Dota 2 tournament returns to China

The International 2026 will take place in Shanghai, with the main arena stage scheduled for 20-23 August at the SPD Bank Oriental Sports Center.

For the Dota 2 community, this is not simply another tournament. For years, The International has been the moment when even people who do not follow the regular season closely return to watch competitive play.

That is hardly surprising. Dota 2 can produce series in which a single draft changes the entire match, while an advantage built over dozens of minutes disappears after one unsuccessful team fight.

The tournament overlaps with the closing days of the Esports World Cup. Fans following several games will therefore have to divide their attention between broadcasts from Paris and Shanghai.

BLAST Premier Open Porto 2026

The autumn part of the CS2 season begins in Portugal

BLAST Premier Open Porto will take place from 26 August to 6 September, with 16 teams participating.

It will be an important moment for the Counter-Strike 2 scene. Teams will return to competition after the summer part of the season, but some may appear with changed rosters. One transfer, a new in-game leader or a coaching change can completely transform the way a team plays compared with only a few weeks earlier.

Porto will therefore be the first serious test before an exceptionally busy autumn. After this tournament, players will move on to further ESL, PGL and BLAST events before the entire season concludes with the Major in Singapore.

It will also be a good opportunity to see which current esports teams have maintained their form from the first half of the year. A strong spring result does not guarantee success in autumn. Maps, updates, line-ups and the way opponents prepare can all change.

VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026

Sixteen teams will compete for the most important title of the season

VALORANT Champions Shanghai will be held from 24 September to 18 October. Sixteen teams will qualify through regional play-offs and the championship points system.

Champions is the moment when the entire VCT season comes down to one question: which team will handle the pressure of the biggest tournament of the year best?

Previous results clearly matter, but finals often follow their own logic. A team may dominate most of the season and then be eliminated after one poor series. Another may pass through qualification without much attention before reaching its best form exactly when it matters most.

No participant list should be treated as final before the regional Stage 2 competitions conclude. Only after qualification closes will it be possible to compare the line-ups properly and identify the strongest favourites.

Game Changers Championship in São Paulo

Another major VALORANT event will begin shortly after the conclusion of Champions Shanghai.

The Game Changers Championship will be held from 22 October to 1 November at the Riot Games Arena in São Paulo.

For fans, this means nearly a full month of international VALORANT. First comes the biggest tournament of the main circuit in China, followed by the Game Changers finals in Brazil.

Worlds 2026 in the United States

The League of Legends World Championship will last almost a month

Worlds 2026 will begin on 15 October and finish on 14 November. The different stages will be held in Los Angeles, Allen in Texas and New York.

The play-in stage is scheduled for the Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles. The Swiss stage and most of the play-offs will take place in Allen, while the grand final will be played on 14 November at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Worlds has long since become more than a tournament only for the most dedicated League of Legends fans.

The event includes an opening ceremony, musical performances, player stories, Pick’Em and enormous interest from viewers across different regions. Even people who do not watch the regular season often return for the World Championship.

The tournament will also be one of the most difficult to follow because of time zones. European viewers should check the starting times of the individual stages in advance, especially for finals held in the United States.

It is also worth being careful with old lists labelled “upcoming esports games in 2025”. One year is a very long time in esports. Qualification formats, locations, line-ups and even entire competition systems may have changed.

Counter-Strike 2 with an exceptionally intense autumn

ESL Pro League returns to Katowice

ESL Pro League Season 24 will take place from 3 to 11 October in Katowice, with 16 teams expected to compete.

For Polish fans, this will be one of the easiest major events to attend at the end of the season. Katowice has held a special place in Counter-Strike history for years, so even an event played outside the traditional winter period may attract a large audience.

It will also be an important test before the next tournaments. Teams that show strong form in Katowice will almost immediately have to prepare for further travel.

PGL Belgrade and IEM Beijing

PGL Belgrade will run from 22 October to 2 November. The event will partially overlap with Worlds 2026 and the Game Changers Championship.

Shortly afterwards, IEM Beijing will take place from 2 to 8 November.

For viewers, this means even more broadcasts to choose from. For players, it means travel, time-zone changes and very limited recovery time.

A calendar this dense can reveal major differences between teams. One roster may perform well at a single tournament but lose form after several weeks of travel. Another may maintain a consistent level throughout an entire sequence of events.

BLAST Premier Rivals in Hong Kong

Eight teams will compete at BLAST Premier Rivals Hong Kong from 11 to 15 November.

The smaller number of participants means that high-level matchups can be expected almost from the beginning. There will be no long opening phase in which favourites can slowly settle into the event.

It will also be one of the final major tests before the Major.

PGL Singapore Major will close the CS2 season

The second CS2 Major of 2026 will take place from 25 November to 13 December in Singapore. Thirty-two teams will participate.

For Counter-Strike 2 fans, this will be the most important event at the end of the year.

A Major has a different status from a regular tournament. It is supported by Valve and connected with official stickers, Pick’Em and a championship title of special importance to the entire scene.

It is still too early to become attached to predicted participant lists. The final line-up will only be known after qualification ends. All earlier lists should be treated as forecasts.

Esports Nations Cup 2026

Players will represent their countries on this scale for the first time

The Esports Nations Cup will begin on 2 November and continue until 29 November in Riyadh.

The biggest difference compared with traditional tournaments is simple: players will represent countries and territories rather than their clubs.

The first edition is expected to include 16 games. The number of national teams and the qualification format will vary by title. Counter-Strike 2 will feature 24 countries and territories, Rocket League is expected to include 48 national teams, and the League of Legends tournament will feature 32 teams.

This is one of the most interesting experiments in the 2026 calendar.

Players normally compete for international clubs. Two players from the same country may face each other throughout the season before later joining the same national team.

For fans, this may create completely new stories. Instead of supporting an organisation active in several regions, some viewers may simply choose their national team.

Which current esports games will matter most?

The biggest scenes are developing in different directions

There is no longer one universal model for esports.

Counter-Strike 2 and VALORANT dominate tactical shooters. League of Legends, Dota 2, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Honor of Kings develop the MOBA scene. Apex Legends, PUBG and Fortnite represent battle royale.

Rocket League, EA Sports FC and racing games form a separate group. Fighting games such as Tekken 8, Street Fighter 6 and Fatal Fury also remain important, alongside competitive digital chess.

Not every one of these titles will reach the same scale.

The popularity of a game alone is not enough to create a healthy competitive scene. It also requires:

  • regular publisher support,
  • transparent qualification systems,
  • a stable calendar,
  • professional broadcasts,
  • sponsor interest,
  • organisations willing to maintain rosters,
  • viewers who return for more than just the finals.

Upcoming esports games should therefore not be judged only by their current player count. It is much more important whether a stable competition system can be built around them.

Current esports teams and constant roster changes

Today’s favourite may not be the favourite in three months

Current esports teams operate in an environment where the situation can change extremely quickly.

The organisation’s name remains the same, but the roster may look completely different. One transfer, a coaching change or the removal of an in-game leader can completely transform the team’s style.

Before the biggest tournaments, it is therefore worth checking more than the logo and ranking position.

  1. Check the official participant list.
  2. Verify the current roster published by the organisation.
  3. Analyse several recent tournaments rather than one good match.
  4. Check results against teams from other regions.
  5. See whether the coach or in-game leader has changed.
  6. Confirm the qualification format used for the tournament.

A favourites list created several months before an event can quickly become outdated. In esports, three months is enough for a team to move from a winning streak to a complete rebuild.

The most important esports events in 2027

Olympic Esports Games in Riyadh

The most widely discussed event announced for 2027 is the first Olympic Esports Games in Riyadh.

The host has been confirmed, but the full game list, detailed qualification system and exact date are still unknown.

The programme will be crucial. It should not automatically be assumed that the Olympic Esports Games will copy the biggest championships known from CS2, League of Legends or VALORANT.

The title selection will depend on decisions made by the organisers and cooperation with publishers. Games with clear equivalents in traditional sports may play a more significant role.

Regardless of the final programme, the event may have major image-building value. Esports will be presented to an audience that does not normally follow leagues, Majors or publisher-run championships.

Esports World Cup 2027

The organisers plan to bring the Esports World Cup back to Riyadh in 2027.

At this stage, however, only some of the details are known. Counter-Strike 2 has been assigned a window from 16 July to 1 August 2027. CS2 has been confirmed for the event in both 2026 and 2027.

League of Legends and Mobile Legends are also expected to remain part of the cycle. The exact dates of every tournament, the arenas and the full game list still require official confirmation.

This distinction matters. The announcement that an event is returning does not yet mean it is safe to book flights and accommodation.

VALORANT Champions 2027 in the Americas region

Riot Games has confirmed that VALORANT Champions 2027 will take place in the Americas region.

The exact city and date have not yet been announced.

The tournament is expected to complete the rotation of the most important VCT event between major regions. After Seoul, Paris and Shanghai, the World Championship will move to the Americas.

Riot has also announced further development of LAN competition and visits to more cities. The full 2027 season calendar has not yet been released.

Partially known BLAST calendar for 2027

Some of BLAST’s Counter-Strike 2 plans are already known.

A studio event in Malta is planned for January. BLAST Premier Singapore Open is expected in March, followed by a tournament in Ulaanbaatar in May.

Further events are planned for August, October and November. The October stop is expected to take place in Rio de Janeiro, while some of the remaining locations have not yet been announced.

This is a good example of a calendar that has been partially confirmed but is still not detailed enough for precise travel planning.

Why could 2027 be a breakthrough year?

Clubs, national teams and Olympic events will begin to overlap

For years, esports was built mainly around clubs and championships organised by publishers.

The Esports Nations Cup is expected to play a major role in 2026. The Olympic Esports Games will then join the calendar in 2027.

This means the same player may, within a period of several months:

  • represent a club during the regular season,
  • play for their country at the Esports Nations Cup,
  • compete in a publisher-organised World Championship,
  • attempt to qualify for an Olympic esports event.

For viewers, this may be extremely interesting. New rivalries, national teams and stories will emerge.

For players, however, it means even more travel, preparation and major tournaments. The biggest problem may no longer be a lack of events, but an excess of them.

Autumn 2026 already shows that the biggest tournaments can take place almost simultaneously. Building the 2027 calendar may be even more difficult.

How to follow upcoming esports events

Do not save one calendar for the entire year

Dates can change in esports. An organiser may move a tournament to another city, change the arena or delay the start of the competition.

The best approach is to create a simple routine.

  1. Check the organiser’s official website.
  2. Compare the date with the game publisher’s calendar.
  3. Pay attention to the time zone.
  4. Do not treat the team list as final before qualification ends.
  5. Check the arena and entry rules again before buying a ticket.
  6. Follow the official profiles of the teams that interest you.
  7. Update your saved calendar at least once a month.

It is also important to distinguish an announcement from full confirmation.

The information that a tournament will take place in the Americas does not mean the city is known. An event announced for a certain month may still not have exact dates.

Upcoming esports events worth following

The end of 2026 will be exceptionally intense.

Dota 2 fans will receive The International in Shanghai. The VALORANT community will follow Champions and the Game Changers Championship. League of Legends will bring Worlds to the United States, while Counter-Strike 2 will close the year with the Major in Singapore.

The biggest new development will be the Esports Nations Cup, where players will represent their countries rather than their clubs.

In 2027, the biggest questions concern the Olympic Esports Games. The host is known, but the full programme may completely change the way the event is received by the community.

The further away a tournament is, the more carefully its dates, location and participant list should be treated.

The best solution is to check official announcements regularly. This will help you avoid missing an arena change, new qualification details or the announcement of a team you have been waiting to see all season.

I’ve followed competitive Counter-Strike for more than two decades, with a strong focus on the European and Scandinavian scenes. I write about professional teams, roster changes, tournaments, player careers and the history of competitive CS. What interests me most is the story behind the result - why a lineup works, how one transfer can reshape a team and how the professional scene has evolved from the early Counter-Strike era to modern CS2.
